MAUNDY THURSDAY
April 2 – 7:00 pm
In-person and streamed
Maundy Thursday marks the close of the season of Lent and focuses our attention on Christ’s death and resurrection. We remember that on the night before he gave himself in death, he gave the gift of himself in bread broken, in wine poured out, and in loving service, through the washing of feet.
On Ash Wednesday, the Lenten journey began with confession of sins and a sign of our brokenness in the imposition of ashes. Tonight as the Lenten journey closes with a call to confession. Those who so desire may come before the altar to receive an individual absolution of sin.
At the conclusion of the service is the stripping of the chancel. This emptying of our worship space marks the transition from our Eucharistic celebration to our contemplation of Christ’s crucifixion and death. After all has been removed from the sanctuary the congregation leaves in silence.
